Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an emotional healing
technique which is also capable of relieving many physical symptoms. The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's
energy field and EFT works by tapping sequentially on meridian points to balance
the flow of energy throughout the body. It is safe and effective therapy,
easy and simple to apply.
In carrying of the technique I will activate particular body meridians by tapping pressure points on the head, torso and hand while carrying out a series of short thought exercises at the same time. The EFT itself takes no longer than 10 minutes and can help with a wide range of issues of an emotional and physical nature. I use EFT independently and as a 'tool' in conjunction with other therapies to aid positive change in people's lives. See list on hypnotherapy page to get an idea of some of the areas I can assist you with using this technique.
What is EFT? EFT has evolved from therapies that can trace their origins back
many thousands of years. Fundamentally all meridian therapies can trace their
origins to acupuncture and shiatsu. Similar therapeutic concepts, which are as
old or even older than the Chinese and Japanese therapies, can be found in many
parts of the world including the Bantu in Africa and the Inuit in the arctic These
are difficult to date but the earliest evidence points to it being used on the
mummified remains of a male who died 3200BC who was recovered from the Alps.
Tattoos on his body correspond to the acupoints used in the treatment of
arthritic pain.
'The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Medicine.' written in the first
century BC, describes the meridians in a way which is still recognised today.
It refers to the use of metal needles, though stones and bamboo had been used
earlier. Acupuncture as a therapy spread widely across China and later to the
West. It is from this fruitful fusion of Eastern and Western ideas that
'modern' energy therapies sprang. In the mid 1960's chiropractor Dr George Goodheart began to
investigate links between apparent muscle strength, the body's organs and
meridians. He, along with John Diamond, developed a diagnostic therapy based on
muscle testing. Out of this grew the field of Applied Kinesiology. By 1979 a psychologist, Dr Roger Callahan, was becoming
dissatisfied with the therapeutic models available to him to help patients
solve their psychological issues. He had Studied Kinesiology with Diamond
and was also investigating Eastern health practices, specifically those that
involved tapping the meridian points. After some initial success with clients
Callahan spent the next 10 years developing his therapy and named it
Thought Field therapy (TFT). This system had specific algorithms or tapping sequences
to heal specific emotional and physical issues.
Gary Craig who trained with Callahan devised Emotional Freedom
Technique in the early years of TFT. EFT is now used broadly as the one
technique and can help with a broad range of issues. This therapy is
becoming more widely used by conventional therapists more and more.
